We scanned local blogs, wine reviews, Google Maps, and recommendations from Dordogne-based guides to find the most mentioned wine bars in Périgueux. From casual spots near the market to hidden cellars and even a Michelin-star restaurant, these places came up again and again. This list combines local favorites and insider tips perfect if you’re planning to sip your way through town.
Before We Start: Your Full Périgueux Guide
If you’re looking for wine bars in Périgueux that aren’t too polished or overhyped, this might help. When people ask me where to find the best wine bars in Périgueux, these are the ones I always end up mentioning. Some I go back to. Others I keep hearing about. Either way, they stuck with me.
I’m no expert. I just like finding a quiet spot, ordering whatever’s local, and seeing how it goes. Sometimes I talk to someone, sometimes I don’t. That’s what I like about it.

Why I Like Wine in Périgueux
It’s quiet here. You order a glass, and somehow you stay longer than you planned. Even if you’re on your own, that’s fine. No one rushes you. People are kind. You can just sit and look around.
Some of these bars I found by accident. Others came up in random chats. At the market, in a shop, someone saying, “Go there.” That kind of tip always gets my attention.
That’s part of why I like this town. It’s not trying to be cool. It just is what it is. And sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
Best Wine Bars in Périgueux – My Own Favorites
Le Chai Bordin
Le Chai Bordin is one of those places I never really plan to go to but often end up in. You walk by, you feel like a glass, and there it is.
It’s small. A couple of tables, short wine list. Most wines are organic. I don’t always care about that, but here it makes sense. There’s usually something on the board I haven’t tried, and I go for that.
If nothing catches your eye, you can head downstairs. There’s a cellar where you can pick a bottle. You pay a little more to open it there. I’ve done that once or twice, mostly out of curiosity.
Food-wise, there’s cheese, some dry sausage, maybe something fresh from the market. It depends on the day. But that’s what I like about it. You don’t always know what’s there. The casual, unplanned feel works for me. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Sometimes I stay a while. People-watching, maybe chatting. And now and then, I end up in conversation with someone local. That’s often the best part. The kind of talk you remember later, because it was unexpected. It’s easily one of the most relaxed wine bars in Périgueux if you want a quiet glass and a bit of character.

L’Écurie des Halles – still on my list
I haven’t been yet. Meant to, more than once, but somehow it didn’t happen. Still, I’ve passed by often. Locals keep mentioning it, so it stuck.
It’s located just behind the market hall. Bit hidden if you don’t know it’s there, you’ll probably walk right past. From the outside, nothing flashy. Inside it looks like a proper old-school bar. Tiled floor, wooden counter, glasses above the bar.
They’re open during the day. Not too crowded, which is nice. I think it depends on how you feel sometimes I like the energy, people walking in and out, chatting, sharing food. It has that energy you only get in real market towns. I just love that market vibe.
They serve simple plates. Cheese, ham, sometimes mushrooms or oysters, whatever looked good at the market that morning. That’s the charm it changes. Still haven’t been, but it’s high on the list. Once I’ve been, I’ll update this. And if you’ve already been, let me know what you thought.

A Classic Stop for Périgueux Wine Tasting
La Cour des Vins
Some of the best wine bars in Périgueux are places you’d miss if no one told you.
It’s also one of the most well-known wine bars in Périgueux for casual tasting and finding something unexpected. They have over 2,000 bottles here, from big-name Bordeaux and Burgundy to wines I’d never heard of. It’s not the kind of place that makes you feel like you need to know everything, though.
The owner, Olivier, knows his stuff. But he’s approachable, and he listens. I told him I wanted something I could open with friends that wouldn’t scare anyone off. He handed me a Bergerac white I now keep an eye out for.
They also do gift boxes and ship stuff, if you’re looking for something special. I’ve sent a few bottles from here as presents. Always appreciated.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, morning and afternoon.
Give the Taste of Périgueux
Looking for something special to send or try? Order foie gras from here or check out this Monbazillac wine box both very Périgord. La Cour des Vins has become one of my favorite wine bars in Périgueux especially if you enjoy browsing and asking questions without any pressure.

Café de la Truffe
Popular central spot with outdoor seating and wines by the glass. It’s not a formal wine bar, but it’s often recommended for a casual drink, especially in the afternoon. The terrace is lively without being overwhelming. Selection changes depending on the season. Inside is simple; the focus is more on location and atmosphere than on variety.
Les Coupoles
Italian restaurant with a relaxed setting and a decent local wine selection. Though not a dedicated wine bar, it’s often mentioned as a place where you can enjoy a Bergerac or Monbazillac without having to order a full meal. Outdoor tables are available, and the atmosphere is quiet, especially in the late afternoon. Service is laid-back and friendly.
L’Essentiel (Michelin-Starred)
Refined but not stiff. Known for thoughtful service and a curated wine list focused on the Dordogne and wider Southwest region. Ideal for those looking to pair wine with a full tasting menu. Reservation is recommended. Many guests highlight the balance between quality and comfort.
Worth a Detour: Crémant in Saint-Émilion
Les Cordeliers was a tip from someone in town. It’s not in Périgueux, but if you’ve got a car and a bit of time, Saint-Émilion is about an hour away.
They make their own crémant. The visit takes you through old cellars proper underground ones, with stone walls and that cool, earthy smell. The tasting at the end is simple. A few pours, no big show. If the weather’s nice, you can sit outside for a bit.
The tour’s in French. They’ll give you a little booklet in English, but it’s not word-for-word. Still, I got the gist. Even if bubbles aren’t usually your thing, the place has something. Worth it, if you’re nearby.

What About Nightlife in Périgueux?
Périgueux isn’t exactly a party town. If you’re looking for big clubs and dancing until 4 a.m., you might be better off heading to Bordeaux. I’ve written a guide about Bordeaux, and if you love a place with a lot going on at night, that’s where you want to be. The city has an energy that makes it perfect for a long night out.
But if you want a quiet evening, Périgueux has its own charm. There are a few spots where you can grab a drink and enjoy a relaxed night out.
Want to Enjoy the Périgueux Scene at Night?
After trying some of the best wine bars in Périgueux, maybe you feel like one more drink, a bite to eat, or just a different kind of place. These are the ones I like and figured I’d share.
- Le Watson Pub – A casual spot with a mix of locals and visitors. Beers, cocktails, nothing fancy just a good place to relax.
- Café de la Truffe – A modern bar with wines by the glass and small plates. It’s relaxed and easygoing.
- Le Gambetta – Starts as a bar, gets more energetic as the night goes on. Turns into a mini-club on weekends.
- La Suite Club – If you’re looking for a proper club night, this is the only full-on nightclub in Périgueux. Expect a mix of music and a young crowd.
- Le VIP Club – A bit more upscale. Since 2011, this spot has been a go-to for themed nights, loud music, and a flashier vibe. It’s run by Alexandre Cornet, who clearly knows how to throw a party. Think dance floor energy, VIP corners, and the kind of night that turns into a story the next day.

Want to Explore Even More Wine?
If reading this got you curious, there’s a lot more to try from local tastings and vineyard visits in Dordogne to wine walks in and around Bordeaux. Some are relaxed, some more hands-on. Depends on what you’re looking for.
These wine bars in Périgueux are a good place to start, but there’s plenty more out there. Browse wine experiences on Winalist and see where your next glass takes you.
