Hi, I’m Alexandra.
About Me
I live in the Netherlands, but I’ve been coming to the Dordogne for more than 20 years.
It started with summer holidays around Sarlat with friends. Each time I came back, I’d end up further from where we started, a smaller village down the road, a market I hadn’t been to, a restaurant a neighbour mentioned.
At some point the Dordogne stopped feeling like just a place I visited on holiday.
After 20 years I know the region pretty well, and I have my own list of places I keep returning to.
That’s what I share here. Not another “50 things to do in the Dordogne” list, just the places I still come back to whenever I’m here.

WHY I STARTED
What I share here
Most of what I write about here comes from places I’ve actually visited myself.
I also ask locals for recommendations, read a lot and save far too many places for later, but I don’t want this site to read like every other Dordogne guide.
More recently I’ve also started writing about everyday life in the region, markets outside the high season, small village shops, what changes when the tourists leave, that kind of thing.
Not because I know everything about living there, but because after all these years I’ve become more interested in that side of it too.
If a place feels overpriced, too touristy or simply not worth the stop, I’ll usually leave it out.
This site is mainly for people planning a trip to the Dordogne who want practical, honest information, which villages are worth a stop, which markets are best, where to eat without being disappointed.
Later on I’ll probably write more for people thinking about longer stays here too.
I run this website myself, in between family life and work in the Netherlands, and usually come back with new places or ideas to add.
